BLINK 2022
Linger

lamps, glow-in-the-dark paint, wooden base, and pressure sensitive foot pedals

Linger is a piece inspired by the random, bizarre thoughts that won’t leave your head when you’re trying to fall asleep. A series of 12 different sizes and styles of lamps with fabric lampshades are fashioned together on a central structure of “risers” as a “chorus” of voices. The lampshades have text (phrases, questions, humorous observations) written on them in glow-in-the-dark paint that is activated by the lamp’s light.

Foot switches extending around from the main structure, invite guests to activate the piece from all sides. When guests step on the foot switch, a lamp turns on and “charges” the text written on the lampshade. When switched off, the light goes out, but the text still has a residual glow for a certain amount of time.

The goal of this piece is to reveal that having random thoughts of our everyday existence is a universal, humanizing aspect of life. This piece is about connecting people.
